Beginning January 15th all cross-border travelers, including truck drivers, must provide proof of double COVID-19 vaccination. This applies to both Americans and Canadians. Omar Alghabra, Canada’s Minister of Transport, said the new requirement is meant to protect travelers and transportation workers.

The announcement comes weeks after a proposed mandate requiring all Canadian cross-border truck drivers to be vaccinated by January 2022.

With North America already experiencing driver shortage, this new mandate brings up even more implications. For any long- haul truckers crossing the border this is something you should start planning for today. The January 15th deadline gives drivers enough time to still get both shots before the date approaches.
