Beginning February 7, 2022, compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Entry-Level Driver Training rule will be required for any individual who wants to:
- Obtain a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) for the first time
- Upgrade their current CDL from a Class B to a Class A
- Obtain an endorsement of P (passenger), S (school bus), or H (hazmat) for the first time
The new rule will require these entry level drivers to complete a prescribed program of theory based learning and behind the wheel instruction prior to presenting to the Department of Motor Vehicles to take the test for a permit or license. The training must be provided by a school or individual listed on the FMCSA Trainer Registry. To be listed on the Training Registry, trainers will need to meet requirements as outlined by the FMCSA.
This rule is expected to have a large impact on the Transportation Industry and the availability of new drivers to enter the industry.
